Mathematics Assessment & Programme
Our extremely effective approach to assist a student with difficulties in mathematics is, quite simply, to find and clear up his or her earliest misunderstanding in the subject; then move forward clearing up the next misunderstanding, the next and so on, until the current subject matter is reached and addressed in the same manner.
You can easily teach a student how to find the distance around (perimeter of) a rectangle: (length + width) x 2. At Applied Scholastics, the student learns the definitions of each of the words and symbols associated with this activity. This is then followed with a scenario that requires the student to put the information to practical use in a situation that is part of the student's world.
Assessment & Programme
Firstly, we provide a free consultation with the student and/or parent to discover what they think the problem areas are. We then conduct a comprehensive assessment using the book "Diagnostic Mathematical Tasks."
This book contains a series of graded tests which effectively diagnose a child's achievement, learning difficulties and individual needs in the various mathematical topics.
A very specific programme is then developed for that student from the information obtained from the consultation and assessment results. This pinpoints the exact areas of difficulty with guaranteed results.
Mathematics tutoring is delivered on a one-to-one basis and, depending on the age of the student, one to two hours per week. Tutoring is paid in 10 hour blocks and payment must be forthwith prior to the student commencing.
Assessment & programme - $100
10 hour block of tutoring - $550
(A 10% discount is given if tutoring is paid in a block of 20 hours or more)
Depending on the student's requirements, there may be additional costs for maths activity workbooks that we use to reinforce what is being learned in the tutoring sessions.
